A reader once told me that they liked an article I wrote because I mentioned that I’m lazy.
I told them it was the truth. My mom will vouch for it.
And the next thing that followed is -
“then how do you do what you’re doing?”
And the answer to that is simple. You optimise your processes around you, not what the gurus tell you.
Let me show you how.
I wouldn’t want to wake up at 5 am. I can, but I don’t want to, because I can’t sleep at 9 pm.
Plenty of books recommend waking up early so you can spend that time without distractions before the chatter starts. I’d say wake up earlier than your day starts, but it doesn’t need to be 5 am. Books mention it as it’s how they market and get known.
I wake up at 7:30 am.
Edit my article.
Take a break.
Write my article.
Workout.
And then I get back to work in the evening.
Is this extremely productive? Nope, I chill for nearly 2 hours after lunch these days. And also because Dynasty’s Season 5 is out.
Am I unproductive? Nope. I’m utilising my time the best I can.
Society has told us that we’re defined by our work - our designation and our job.
I’m not a writer the entire day and on weekends. I’m just me.
Now whether I use that time to read, be on YouTube, study an online course, or take a nap - that’s on me. Because I didn’t hop into self-employment to fit other people’s notion of what’s right and how we can use our time, corporates do a great job of putting that down your throat.
Why am I telling you this?
Because too many of us are hard on ourseleves to fit other people’s notion of productivity. Productivity Porn - as they call it.
It tells you that you’re useless if you’re not doing the 5 things mentioned on Twitter, Pinterest, or a meme.
And that’s not true.
You become productive around your lifestyle. And that could be journalling every day or just weekly reflection. That could be working out post-work and not going for a jog every morning.
You’re not in this world to fit other people’s glossary of definitions.
I hope that gives you something to think about.
Also, whoever needs to hear this -
you are enough.
Update
I started a YouTube channel. Here’s my first video. Let me know what you think?

What I wrote this week
I got back to writing after a month. I didn’t start until the 5th and it was so difficult to write because I was out of momentum.
I’m actually surprised I published 17 articles this month.
Here’s what when live this week:
Happy Reading!
I’ll see you next week.
Love,
N
I am also lazy but my biggest foe is lack of focus. I start to do one thing and end up imagining twenty-five other unrelated topics which keep me entangled for a fair portion of time.
Great thanks for sharing this
