Hi friends,
It’s been a while since we spoke last. By ‘a while’, I mean two weeks. This is also the first time in the last few months that I didn’t send in a weekly newsletter. :( Sorry!
And the reason for that is yours truly was busy attending weddings.
I’ve travelled to three cities in the past three weeks and ended up with food poisoning in the end.
But here I am, trying to get back to work slowly and typing with freezing fingers because it’s so damn cold.
LinkedIn India called…
And added me to their exclusive ‘LinkedIn Creators Programme’.
I was elated to receive this email:
It’s still in its budding phase, so I’ll know more about it as we go on. But I’m so happy to add this feather to my hat!
I want to tell you three things
I did upload this on LinkedIn, and I refrain from this Newsletter being a repeat of content that I post anywhere else.
But as we end this year, I feel this can help a lot of you out there.
#YearEndHighlight1
How much can your life change in a year? Mine did drastically, and I'll post more around this for the remaining bit of this year.
For today, let's start with failures.
It's all rosy to talk about corporate to self-employed, one income stream to five, being your own boss, and all that jazz but the reality behind it all is anything but rosy.
Here are 5 things that happened to me:
1. The client I banked on to quit my job ghosted me the moment I quit my job!
2. One 'high profile' executive stole my ideas.
3. I was in talks for 4 months to work together, and they ended it over a text (yes, it happens professionally too!)
4. I've earned nearly $2000 in the last 22 days by doing NOTHING (people are purchasing my course starting in January) - but the anxiety of being good enough and delivering well is hitting me every day.
5. Clients ending 'suddenly' is not uncommon at all, and your entire month's income can get impacted by it.
This is the tip of the iceberg.
Here's what I've learnt:
- Be friends with uncertainty to build resilience
- Having multiple income sources a necessity for everybody
- You can't control what happens to you, you can only control what you react
- People will be unfair, it's not on you, its on them
- Keep going forward, better things will ALWAYS come your way
- Be nice to everyone - your soul gets fulfilled and you'll sleep better
#YearEndHighlight2
I’ve never been bold. I was that kid who didn’t raise their hand to talk because I was afraid of what people thought of me.
Earlier this year, I read an article about how we should make life a series of ‘experiments’. Be detached from outcomes, and have the spirit of every action to be just an experiment - either it works out or it doesn’t.
This helped me gain the one thing I was lacking - courage.
Here are a series of experiments I conducted this year:
- Have a side hustle
- Earn on the side at least as much as my corporate paycheck
- Resign from the corporate sector before I turn 25
- Make a living by writing online
- Launch an ebook
- Network globally and make friends
- Build an online business (a single tweet made it happen)
- Start a paid community for my course members
- Write what makes me feel vulnerable
I’ve been scared before trying each one of them. Every single act had a high propensity of not working out (still does!).
But thinking of it as an 'experiment' instead of a monumental decision made it easier.
My friends or family didn't know about any of this (most are still unaware about what I really do), but keeping it that way makes it easier for me to focus and get things done instead of talking about it.
Consider trying this in 2022?
So what if it doesn't work out, it's just an experiment.
Maybe it will 😉 You'll only know if you try.
#YearEndHighlight3 (unpublished)
Last year this time, I was stalking some people I wanted to be like. I was studying their journeys and paths.
I'm as lazy as one can get, so this was my plan to learn from their mistakes so I can avoid that and expedite my journey. ;)
A year later, it all feels unreal.
Whether it’s the kind of work I do, the hours I put in at work, the time I get to do things outside my work, or the monetary aspect of it - it’s unreal.
But it happened by one thing - doing.
It’s scary. You’ll fall plenty of times. You’d be judged. And your business might fail.
But you won’t know if you don’t try.
There has never been a better time to try something new or do what your heart desires. We have the world at our fingertips. The pandemic pushed us to work from home.
We have zero challenges as compared to our ancestors such as famines, wars, and working to just survive.
Think about it.
