Hi friend,
I have a lot of thoughts this time. And a surprise for a few of you, in the end.
No, don’t scroll in a hurry!
Also, on April 02, I complete a year of handing in my resignation.
I know I write about quitting my job often and how it was ‘life changing’ for me.
But you must know that it wasn’t life changing because it’s made me successful or something, I’m far away from my goals. It’s not even life changing because of any monetary benefits or because I have decent amount of ‘followers’. If you’ve been reading my stuff since a while, you’d know that vanity metrics don’t mean much to me.
It was life changing because it
was the first bold step I’ve made in life
was a decision I took after working on something I never did - self awareness
completely changed my beliefs about a lot of things (the universe, law of attraction, human potential, mindset, traditional norms, etc)
I think writing is my ikigai. If you don’t know about the concept, here’s a picture that depicts it:
Anyway, I’m not here to talk to you about my ‘1 year of resigning’, that will be up on LinkedIn anyway ;)
I’m here for something else.
You probably don’t need to be a billionaire.
You’re probably making more money than you truly need anyway, but the society makes you chase the next big thing. You probably think you need X amount of money before you die, but the real figure is much smaller.
I’d love to take the credit, but these were words of Papa CJ on a podcast with Raj Shamani.
Every word on this podcast hit me so hard, and it will probably hit you too. I don’t want to spoil it for you by talking about it in depth :)
Story time
I dreamt to be an HR consultant. I already had my eye on the Human Capital team in one organisation to enter before I’m 30.
That was a goal I set, but entirely influenced by the society. And I didn’t even know that!
The thing is, you don’t have to figure it all out. And that’s okay. The first step to self awareness is admitting things to yourself and nobody else.
Listen, I recently scaled down my course to NOT make $10k/cohort from it. That may sound stupid, my I don’t want an empire. I’ve passed on most of client work because I can either open an agency and start a content writing business but I don’t want that much stress in life. I don’t want to handle a company.
I have over 300 articles to be potential YouTube videos but I don’t want to be all over the place, I just want to keep up my current pace even if that means entering a market late and not earning from a potential source.
To anybody else, this may be a stupid decision. But why? Just because of money?
Instead, prioritise contentment and see where that takes you.
Yesterday, I finished a podcast between Lewis Howes and Ken Honda about the wealth mindset where Ken said that:
“the millionaires and billionaires I’ve worked with don’t regret not making more money. They wished they took their wives out more often, attended their kids’ soccer games, and had more family time.”
My final words to you
Dream but have a definite motivation behind it.
Have a purpose that in some way or another is aligned to being of service to people. This one sentence may seem casual, but I can’t emphasise on how to changes everything.
I write to you every week in with a hope that one out of over 2000 of you will take action. Not get inspired, but execute. To get inspired, watching Tony Robbins’ videos are more helpful. :)
And be true to yourself.
From 2016-late 2020 I had no idea that my dream of consulting in a corporate wasn’t my dream at all. And I wouldn’t have discovered this until I jumped all in on the inside to realise that a lot of what’s ‘normal’ for people isn’t normal for me. The traditional path proven for success isn’t my path. And that’s okay.
Be honest with yourself, get to know yourself better, and make better decisions.Every single decision you make is impacting your future.
That’s all. Too heavy?
Hit reply and let me know your thoughts.
What I Published This Week
I also published a really strong article but I don’t think I want to reveal that just yet (though it’s there on Medium if you’re a member).
Exciting News!!!
I’m starting a weekly newsletter called ‘Side Hustle Saturdays’ which will be delivered to everybody who grabbed my Side Hustlers’ Checklist (it costs $0).
I want to serve those who are where I was when I started off. Share golden nuggets on side hustling, writing, monetisation, and the creator economy as a whole.
If this intrigues you, feel free to grab the checklist.
I will see you next week.
Love,
N
PS: Please ignore the typos. For some reason, I got over excited on Friday evening and am finishing to type this at midnight. I can schedule this for 12 hours later so I can edit it and make it ‘proper’, but for some reason, I’m over excited and want to send this right now! :D
